3 Ways to Improve Your Email Deliverability

Have you ever had that feeling when you send out a perfectly crafted email, but it just seems to disappear into the abyss? Don't worry, you're not alone!

Let's dive into some ways to improve your email deliverability rates and make sure your messages are landing in the inboxes of your subscribers.

Understanding Email Deliverability

If you want your emails to actually make it to your recipients' inboxes, you need to know a thing or two about how email deliverability works.

Email deliverability is the percent of emails that reach their intended inbox. Your email deliverability rate depends on a variety of elements, like the quality of your list, IP reputation, your sending domain, frequency of emails, and more.

Wondering if your emails are just landing in your subscribers' spam folders? Don't worry! I've got your back. Here are three ways to boost your sender reputation and enhance the deliverability of your emails.

Build a Strong Sending Domain

One of the most important things is having a strong sending domain. This means that your emails are viewed as reliable and trustworthy by ISPs, (Internet Service Providers) increasing the chances that your emails will reach your subscribers.

First, you need to monitor your domain reputation regularly. This means keeping an eye on your email engagement metrics like open rates, click-through rates, and spam complaints. By improving these metrics, you can show ISPs that your emails are valuable and deserve to be delivered.

Use the same sender name and email address in all your emails. This will help build trust and recognition with your subscribers and ISPs. And make sure your domain has SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records in place. This will strengthen your domain's authentication and credibility, which is super important.

Verifying your sender domain has always been a best practice, but as of February 2024, it is now a requirement to meet the standards set forth by Google and Yahoo. Verifying your domain helps confirm your identity and can be accomplished by adding a record to your domain host. If you use ConvertKit as your email service provider, they have an app to help make the domain verification process easier.

Send Useful + Valuable Emails

If you're sending emails for marketing purposes, it's important to make sure they don't end up in the spam folder. To avoid this, the key is to create content that's engaging and relevant to your audience. You want to make sure your content is valuable and encourages user engagement so your emails are more likely to be delivered.

To improve your email results even further, it's important to personalize your content. By segmenting your email list and creating targeted content, you can increase engagement and ultimately improve your email deliverability.  Read more about Mastering ConvertKit Tags and Segments here.

You also want to make sure your messaging is clear and concise, your subject lines are compelling, and your visuals are engaging. All of these elements will help your emails stand out and encourage recipients to open and interact with them.

If you consistently send well-crafted emails, your audience is more likely to open and engage with the content. This, in turn, sends positive signals to email providers about your sender reputation. Conversely, if you send low-quality or irrelevant emails that your subscribers never open, or worse, mark as spam, that sends negative signals to email providers and can harm your sender reputation.

Keep Your List Clean

I get it, you've worked hard to build your email list, and the idea of removing subscribers can be tough. But trust me, if you have people on your list who never open or engage with your emails, it can really hurt your reputation as a sender. It's better to have a smaller group of people who are excited to hear from you than a huge list of people who don't care.
