Ben Silbermann, co-founder of Pinterest, announced he was stepping down as CEO of Pinterest in late June of this year. He will be replaced by highly-qualified Bill Ready, formerly President of Commerce, Payments & Next Billion Users at Google. Prior to that, he was Chief Operating Officer at PayPal, and CEO of both Braintree and Venmo.

Silbermann shared with his Pinterest team how he came to this decision and in a recent statement spoke with great expectation about the direction Pinterest was moving in. He states, “In our next chapter, we are focused on helping Pinners buy, try and act on all the great ideas they see. Bill is a great leader for this transition. He is a builder who deeply understands commerce and payments.”

Is Pinterest Marketing Right for Your Online Shop?

Pinterest marketing is a great way to drive more traffic to your website, blogs, products, and resources. One of the reasons we love Pinterest is because, unlike other platforms, your content is always searchable and will be around for months and years to come.

Did you know that Pinterest has over 400 million pinners visit the platform each month? This is an incredible opportunity to expand your reach, grow your audience, and get your products or services into the hands of those that need them most.

One of the main changes resulting from Ready stepping into the CEO position is that new shopping features have already been released!

Here is a list of Pinterest’s newest shopping features:

  • The Pinterest API for Shopping
  • Product Tagging for Pins
  • Video in Catalog
  • Shop Tab on Business Profiles

The Benefits of the New Pinterest Shopping Features

Before jumping into opening up a Pinterest shop, you’ll need to become a verified merchant! Being a verified merchant gives you access to:

  • Favored Ranking in the Pinterest Algorithm
  • An Additional Tab Called “Shop”
  • A Blue Checkmark

The Pinterest API for Shopping

This new feature will provide more accurate metadata for merchants. According to Pinterest, improved data has already proven a 97% accuracy in price and availability data for those that have used this feature.

This Pinterest shopping feature not only offers merchants valuable insights and reliable information, it also improves shoppers experience by displaying accurate information on details they need to know.

Product Tagging for Pins

Have you ever been perusing Pinterest and come across a product that you had to have? Many platforms leave you wishing you knew exactly where to find it—not Pinterest. Product tagging for pins allows you, the merchant, to tag your pins providing direct access to your products! This is a win win for both you and the shopper.

Video in Catalog

It’s no secret—video almost always outperforms stagnant content. Pinterest’s new shopping tool allows merchants to include a video in their catalog to give shoppers the full experience of their product.

According to Pinterest, video ads increase pin’s click through rate (CTR) by an astounding 158%!

Shop Tab on Business Profiles

Looking to increase your sales? Add your products to the new shop tab on your business profile. This feature organizes all of your shoppable products in one area—making it easy for Pinterest shoppers to find exactly what they’re looking for!
